Graphic Card also referred to as the display adapter or a video card is a component that’s integrated into the computer to generate and output images to display. This is usually inserted into a slot inside the motherboard of a system.
How it Works :
The Graphic card as afore mentioned is used to output images to the display (monitor). The Graphic card usually acts as a translator which converts the binary data from the processor to an image. Thus it is responsible for the entire set of pictures and text that we see on the display. While the basic cards are sufficient to take the load of 2D or two-dimensional graphics , high end graphic cards are required for 3 dimensional graphics.
2D Graphics is a computer-generated graphic image or sequence created in two dimensions (2D) like a map or a diagram that appears on screen. The elements of 2D are usually the resolution and refresh rate.
In Contrast, 3d graphics are graphics that use a three-dimensional representation of geometric data that is stored in the computer for the purposes of performing calculations and rendering 2D images. 3D computer graphics rely on many of the same algorithms as 2D computer vector graphics in the wire-frame model and 2D computer raster graphics in the final rendered display.

Graphic card Components :
A graphic card is a printed circuit board of which the following are main components:
Graphics processing unit : GPU’s are the so-called processors or say a microprocessor of the Graphic Cards with highly parallel structure that perform complex algorithm efficiently.
Video BIOS : Video BIOS provides a set of video-related functions that are used by programs to access the video hardware. The video BIOS interfaces software to the video chipset in the same way that the system BIOS does for the system chipset. Video RAM In Contrast to the shared memory, Video memory is dedicated memory found in video cards that are not integrated onto the motherboard. It is an essential component and becomes mandatory when using high end 3d graphics on the systems , be it games, modeling or animation.
RAMDAC :This is usually responsible to store the color palette and generate analog signals to drive a color monitor.
