BANGALORE: A devious JD(S) not only got back the 'betrayer' tag by ditching the BJP on Monday, but also found itself in an unenviable position with many MLAs losing their patience with party supremo H D Deve Gowda for his political inconsistency. Affronted by Gowda's decision to issue a whip with a clear instruction to vote against the confidence motion to be moved by chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, a majority of MLAs at the JD(S) legislature party meeting opposed it. Echoing public sentiment about erosion of morality in politics, the MLAs reportedly told Gowda: "We request you to push us from the top floor of Vidhana Soudha (assembly building) and kill us once for all, instead of torturing everyone by changing your stand." The decision will work against the party at the hustings as its credibility will be eroded, the MLAs said. Gowda tried to pacify his MLAs saying the decision was aimed at saving the JD(S) from being decimated. But the MLAs were in no mood to listen. First to pull the trigger was Magadi MLA H C Balakrishna when he said: "I do not favour this decision. But I will follow the whip. After voting against the confidence motion to be moved by Yeddyurappa, I will take a decision on the political route I have to take. We have been stripped in public, at least allow us to cover ourselves on our own." Balakrishna, a Vokkaliga, had high hopes of becoming a minister in the Yeddyurappa regime. Balakrishna's outburst was followed by sharp criticism from fellow MLAs Veerabasanth Reddy, D Nagarajaiah, Amaregouda Patil Bayyapur, Vishwanath Patil Hebbal and Mudappa Muniyappa. var RN = new String (Math.random()); var RNS = RN.substring (2,11); var b2 = ' '; if (doweshowbellyad==1) bellyad.innerHTML = b2;
