THE MADRAS DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION (MDRF)
A centre of excellence for Research & Education in diabetes & related complications In order to undertake advanced research of international standards on diabetes and its complications, the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), a unique 100% nonprofit research centre exclusively devoted for diabetes research, was established in 1996 at Gopalapuram in the heart of Chennai. The MDRFs rapid growth and the need to cater to a much larger number of scientists, has led to the establishment of a new research centre called as the The Kallam Anji Reddy Centre at Siruseri in the outskirts of Chennai. The aim of the new Centre of MDRF is to establish an environment for scientists and students to innovate new technologies and products, which can be translated to be used in therapy of disease. The Kallam Anji Reddy centre of MDRF will also train and stimulate originality and creativity amongst scientists, which will lead to cutting edge research. Research on diabetes is a continuous activity at MDRF. Within a short time, MDRF has gained international and national recognition for its original research contributions. In November 1996, the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India also recognized MDRF as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO). MDRF is recognized by the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and by the University of Madras for conducting Ph.D. courses.
